Referrals: Link tracking and Rewards

What do you put in your newsletter?

How do you reward your readers?

What do people really want to read in a newsletter?

Well we went over the last question with the NYT Newsletter blog. I recommend going through your inbox and pulling examples of newsletters that you love and those that you should have unsubscribed. Take screenshots and try some things. In that very exercise I found a new component of a newsletter. I’ll describe it as a referral link tracking graphic, but dang, did it get my attention. I immediately emailed my GF the link to see what she would receive and how the software works.

I have no idea what referral tracking software the email actually uses, but I did find Google’s Firebase with dynamic links.

Dynamic Links are smart URLs that allow you to send existing and potential users to any location within your iOS or Android app. They survive the app install process, so even new users see the content they're looking for when they open the app for the first time. Dynamic Links are free forever, for any scale.

Yeah boooooyyyyyy! Free forever.

How cool is this

PS the little smileys are brought to you courtesy of Google Forms.

Forget about using them in an app (unless you’re chock full ‘o apps). Check out the video below for a quick summary of the service and what it can do for you.
